Monument
Located roughly sixteen rows from the central path, just north of the Commonwealth War Grave of Leonard Sparkes. The headstone fell some time ago and is very badly eroded. 
The ground slab within the grave set is in much better condition.

Inscription We were only able to check part of the headstone.

David Jennings (1811 – 28 December 1864)

David was the son of John and Martha (née Spark) Jennings and wsa born in Newmarket. He was baptised at St Mary’s Church, Newmarket on 30 April 1811, and married Sarah Skinner in 1846. They had at least four children: Edwin Henry (1847-1892), Catherine Ann (1850-1904), Charles John (1854-) and Alfred Robert (1859-1923). David was a cheese monger who ran a shop called ‘Marshall & Co’ at 15 Pembroke Street (1851/1861) and later at Peas Hill.  He died at 7 Peas Hill aged 53 years after what newspapers described as a ‘severe illness’. The business was taken over by his sons and re-named’Jenning Brothers’.

Sarah Jennings (née Skinner) (c.1821 – 19 May 1874)

Sarah was born in Cambridge and married when she was c.23 years old.  After being widowed she ran the shop at Peas Hill with her son Edwin (1871).  She died at *7 Peas Hill aged 53 years.

Alfred Robert  Jennings (1859 –  29 March 1923)

Alfred was the youngest son of David and Susan. He went to school at Grove House School in Mansfield and later joined his brothers in running Jenning Brothers’cheese mongers and Italian warehouse.  In 1901 he was living at 7 Peas Hills and running the business by himself.  By 1920 he was living at 255 Mill Road with his widowed sister in law Emily Jennings. He died at 255 Mill Road aged 63 years old.

Susan Mary Jennings (9 October 1799  – 27 September 1888)

née Spark) Jennings.

She later moved to live at 7 Peas Hill with sister in law Sarah (1871) and then with her nephews Edwin and Charles (1881).  She died at 24 Eden Street aged 88 years old (though the grave monument states she was 89 years).
