Inscription
Edward Martin Kempton (1808 – 7 June 1862)
Edward was born in Ely and is believed to have been the son of grocer Samuel Kempton and Lydia (née Adam). He married Elizabeth Caseburn at St. Andrew’s Church on 26 June 1832. Edward worked as a house painter/decorator and the couple lived at 49 Eden Street. He died at home aged 54 years old.
Elizabeth Kempton (née Caseburn) (c.1810 – 10 March 1881)
Elizabeth was born in Burwell and after she was widowed ran a Lodging House from 49 Eden Street. She died in Burwell and her funeral was held on 15 March 1881. After Elizabeth’s death 49 Eden Street was sold at auction and was described as ‘a brick and slate house….containing five rooms and a passage, and at the back is a garden, workshop and other conveniences and a pump of good water’.
