This fallen headstone, in the parish of Andrew the Less, lies partially on the path leading from the Gwydir St gate to the central path. It tends to get very muddy but the inscription of metal letters is still intact and the carved decoration shows up well after rain.

In Loving Memory of a dear mother ETHEL MEEKS who died 20th July 1972

Ethel Louisa Marie Meeks  (née Cook) (24 April 1885 – 20 July 1972)

Ethel was the daughter of John (1847-1908) and Louisa Adelaide (née White) (1846-1907) and grew up at Broad Street (1891) and Stone Street (1901). Her father was a painter, and aged 15 Ethel was working as a domestic servant. She married Samuel Arthur Meeks (1883-1958) in 1908 and they had one son: Ronald Arthur (1910-1997). Samuel was the son of  Moses and Sarah Meeks and worked as a good loader for Great Eastern Railway. The family lived at 64 York Street (1911  at least 1927) and 135 Sturton Street (at least 1929 onwards). She was widowed in May 1958 and continued to live at 135 Sturton Street until her death aged 87 years old.
