James Miller (c.1827 – 17 February 1880)
James was born in Ashdon, a village four miles north of Saffron Walden. He was the son of Jasper and Mary and his father worked as an agricultural labourer. Aged 23 (1851) he was working as a footman to Benedict Chapman, who was Master of Caius College and also the Rector of Ashdon. It is believed that James was later College Porter at Caius.
He married Sarah and they had at least six children: Sarah Anne (1862-1904), Alfred James (1864-), John (1868-), Lucy (1869-), George (1871-) and William (1874-1874). The lived at 6 Park Street and James died there in 1880.
Sarah Miller ( 1831 – 12 January 1905)
Sarah was born in Coseley, near Dudley in Staffordshire and little is known of her early life. After she was widowed she ran a Lodging House from 6 Park Street (1881/1891) and then lived with her sons John and George at 19 Park Street (1901). She died aged 73 years old.
William Miller (1874 – 16 November 1874)
William was baptised at All Saints’ Church on 6 September 1874 and died at Park Street aged 5 months old.
