Inscription

To our dear daughters

N G NORTHFIELD d Sept 13th 1895 aged 5

GRACE WARHAM died June 16 1922 aged 24 years

Nellie Grace Northfield (1890 – 13 September 1895)

Nellie and Grace were the daughters of William and Ellen Northfield.  William worked as a general labourer (1891/1901) and then for the Town Council as a ‘disinfector’ (sic) (1911).  William and Ellen had at least seven children: William John Anthony (1885-1954), James Albert (1887-1957), Nellie Grace, Walter Joseph (1892-1927), Ethel Maud (1895-1957), Grace and Violet (1903-)

Nellie Grace was born at 10 Gloucester Place and died there aged 5 years old.

Grace Warham (nee Northfield) (1898 – 16 June 1922)

Grace was the sixth of the Northfield siblings. She grew up at Gloucester Place (1901) and then at 186 Sturton Street (1911). She married Edgar Heron Warham (1895 – 1940) in 1919 when she was 21 years old. Their son Peter Grace was born on 13th June 1922, and Grace died three days after the birth.

Edgar Warham returned to his native Yorkshire after his wife’s death.  He married for a second time in 1928 to Doris Beckett.  Edgar died on 26th July 1940 – he was on a ship that was sunk at sea after being hit by an enemy submarine 300 miles north west of Ireland.  His death was counted as a civilian death during World War 2.  Peter Grace Warham died in Yorkshire in November 1996.
