Sarah Potts (née Smith) (1802 – 23 June 1887)
Sarah was born in Twickenham, London and married John Levy Potts (1796-1844) in Clerkenwell in 1823. They lived at Union Place, Clerkenwell and John was a clerk. They had at least five children: Mary (1823-1893), Sarah Sophia (1825-1867), Annie (1829-), James (1840-) and John. Sarah was widowed in May 1844 and worked as a box maker. In 1871 she was living with her son James and his family at 9 Upper Tollington Road, Holloway. James was a barometer maker, but later became a master optician. She then moved to Cambridge and lived at 26 Union Terrace with her daughter Mary and son in law Richard Twinn. On the census of 1881 she was marked as being paralysed and died at 8 Pulling Terrace aged 85 years old.
Richard Twinn (19 June 1819 – 3 June 1888)
Richard was the son of Richard (1783-1870) and Elizabeth (née Charter) (1786-1877), brother of John and was baptised in Duxford on 5 December 1819. His father was an agricultural labourer and in 1841 Richard was working as the same. The family lived in Great Shelford from at least 1824 onwards. In 1851 Richard was living with his brother John and sister Sarah at Union Road, Cambridge. John ran a stationary shop on Petty Cury, and Richard was a maltster, whilst Sarah acted as their housekeeper. He married Mary Potts on 16 August 1854 at St. Peter’s Church, Holborn. On the marriage certificate he gave his profession as a stationer. The couple lived in Great Shelford and he worked as a ‘maltster’s man’ before later moving to 62 Newmarket Road (1871) and 26 Union Terrace (1881). Richard and Mary had at least two sons: James (1860-1877) and Arthur (1865-1940). He died at home aged 68 years old.
Mary Twinn (née Potts) (1823 – 28 January 1893)
Mary was born in Clerkenwell, the eldest child of John and Sarah Potts. In 1891 she was living at Union Terrace with her son Arthur and two nephews and died at home aged 69 years.
