Greta Elizabeth Kate Roff (1892 – 16 June 1916)

Greta was the eldest daughter of Arthur and Kate Roff.  She died at Montrose House, 157 Chesterton Road aged 24 years old. Her funeral took place on 23 June 1916.

Arthur Thomas Roff (1859 – 25 August  1921)

Arthur was born in Hampstead, London and was the son of plumber/painter/glazier Samuel Drury Roff (1824-1894) and his wife Ann (née Ponting) (1821-). Arthur grew up at 57 Heath Street  in Hampstead and was baptised at St. John’s Church, Hampstead on 5 February 1873. He married Kate Fulcher in 1879 and they had seven children: Herbert Downes (1879-1956), Arthur Reginald (1881-1953), Harold Peter (1885-1927), Burleigh Sidney (1888-1951), Oscar Allan (1889-1968), Greta Elizabeth Kate and Iris Mabel Lucy (1897-1982). Arthur and Kate started married life in London and live at Mansfield Road (1881) but moved to Cambridge after the birth of youngest son Oscar to live at Botolph House, 17 Botolph Lane (1891/1901).  Arthur worked as a house decorator and had retired by 1911. The family moved to live at Montrose House, Chesterton Road, where he died aged 63 years old.

Harold Peter Roff (1885 – 17 February 1927)

Harold was the third son of Arthur and Kate Roff, and was born in Hampstead, but grew up in Cambridge.  He married Olive Ray (1882-1944) in Cambridge in 1906. In 1911 Harold and Olive were living with Olive’s father Alfred Ray at Merton Lodge, Park Hill in  Clapham, and Harold was described as being of private means on the census of that year. Alfred Ray died a wealthy man in 1914 and left his money to his only daughter Olive.  Harold served in the 1st World War from March 1916 to February 1918 with the British Red Cross Society and Order of St. John. Harold and Olive moved to live at Friars Oak House, Hassocks in Sussex and he died at the Cottage Nursing Home  in Balham.

Kate Maria Roff (née Fulcher)  (19 July 1858 –  11 May 1928)

Kate was born in Chesterton and baptised there on 25 February 1866. She was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Fulcher and grew up at the Carpenter’s Arms pub on Victoria Road where her father was a wheelwright/carpenter and publican. After she was widowed she went to live at 62 Disraeli Road in Putney  and died there aged 69 years old.
