Elizabeth Traylen (née Dent)  (c.1855 – 26 October 1919)

Elizabeth was  the daughter of shoeing smith Robert Dent and his wife Mary Ann.  She grew up at 2 Jordan’s Yard off Bridge Street (1871) and married John Traylen in 1876.  The couple had ten children: Victoria Catherine (1877-1940), John Robert (1878-1920), Ganetta (1880-), Elizabeth Beatrice (1881-), Catherine Jane (1883-1964), Frederick William (1887-1942), Isabella Frances (1888-) and a further three children who died as infants.  The couple started married life in Orton, Peterborough where John was working as a machinist (1881).  By 1891 they had moved to live at 12 Prospect Row, where he ran a grocer’s shop.  They then moved to 41 Sidney Street where they ran a lodging house and John also worked as a college shoe black (1911). Elizabeth died at 4 Wray’s Court, Sidney Street after ‘a long illness’.

John Traylen (1850 – 25 November 1931)

John was born in Peterborough and was the son of farmer Joseph and  his wife Catherine. He was baptised on 29 June 1851 and married Elizabeth Dent when he was c.25 years old. In 1930 John was still living at Wray’s Court and died the following year aged 81 years old.
