David Ward (26 March 1825 – 24 March 1900)

David was born in Sawston and baptised there on 17 April 1825. He was the son of David and Sarah and by 1841 the family were living at Newmarket Road, where his father was a ropemaker. David trained as a stonemason and married Elizabeth Chapman in 1848. They had at least six children: Sarah (1851-), Harry (1855-), Albert (1858-), Arthur Chapman (1860-), Emma Jane (1863-1929) and Kate (1867-). In 1851 the family were living at George Street, and Elizabeth was working as a straw bonnet maker. They later lived at 9 Coldham Lane (1861-at least 1872) and 194 Newmarket Road (at least 1881 onwards). David died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and his funeral was held on 31 March.

Elizabeth Ward (née Chapman) (1826 – 6 December 1913)

Elizabeth was born in Cambridge and worked as a straw bonnet maker throughout her marriage. After she was widowed, she lived with her granddaughter Ethel Ward at Newmarket Road (1901) before moving to live with eldest daughter Sarah, and son in law Thomas Wilkinson at Woodstone, Peterborough (1911). Thomas worked on the railway and the family later moved to Station Yard, March where Elizabeth died aged 87 years old.
