Mabel Elizabeth Woods (née Hunt) (28 January 1884 – 1 December 1943)
Mabel was the eldest daughter of John and Alice Hunt. Her father was a labourer for the water works and she grew up at 25 New Street (1891) and then at 6 Walton Terrace, East Road (1901/1911). She married John William Horace Woods (1890-1917) in 1913. John was a railway worker, and the family lived at 4 Britannia Place, East Road. The couple had at least three children: Phyllis Kathleen (1913-1972), Cyril Percival (1914-1990) and Ethel B M (1916-1918). John served as a private in the Royal Irish Regiment, 6th Batallion and was killed at Ypres on 2 August 1917. He was buried at the Potijze Chateau Grounds Cemetery in Belgium.
In 1939 Mabel was living at 81 Norfolk Street with her children Cyril and Phyllis and working as a charwoman. She died aged 59 years.
