This small plinth, in the north of the parish of Andrew the Less, It is 7 rows north west of the Gwydir St gate and just to the east of the headstone of Bowman. The inscription is badly eroded but Mary’s on the west face can be read in slanting sun. The rest of the inscription is buried. the cross has fallen to the north west and is usually hidden by grass.

Mary Ann Allen (née Summers) (1839-1899)
Mary was born in 1839 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. She was one of at least eight children born to James Summers (c.1811-?) and Elizabeth Scott (c.1813-1897). In 1841 the family was living in Northampton Row, Cambridge. By 1851 the family had moved to Wellington Row, Cambridge. On 12 December 1864 Mary married Frederick Allen (1840-1910) at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. Mary worked as a tailoress alongside her husband, who was a tailor. Mary died on 19 July 1899 at home in 14 Blossom Street, Cambridge.
Frederick Allen (1840-1910)
Frederick was born in 1840 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. He was the younger of two sons born to William Allen (c.1804-?) and Mary Ann Allen (née Driver) (c.1806-?). In 1841 the family was living at 1 Broad Street, Cambridge. In 1851 the family was living at 21 Willow Place, Cambridge. In 1861 he was a lodger at 3 Leicester Street, London. He was working as a tailor like his father. On 12 December 1865 he married Mary Ann Summers (1839-1899) at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. They had eight children: Elizabeth Summers (1865-1931), Frank Martin (b 1867), Alfred Edward (b 1871), Emma (b 1873), Caroline (1875-1952), Ellen Maud (b 1877), Mary Louisa (b 1878) and Frederick William (b 1881). By 1871 Frederick and his family were living at 14 Blossom Street, Cambridge where they remained until at least 1901. Frederick died on 8 January 1910. His last known address was 118 Newmarket Road, Cambridge. Frederick’s daughter, Elizabeth Summers Peak (née Allen), was also buried in this Cemetery together with her husband, William Arthur Peak (1865-1933). Their son and Frederick’s grandson, Alfred Edward Peak (1891-1915), was commemorated on their grave as he was killed and buried in France during the war.
