Jacob John Andrews (1853 – 11 March 1931)

Jacob was the son of Isaac (1818-1870) and Mary Ann (née Pleasance) Andrews and was born in Bury St. Edmunds. Isaac was a whitesmith and Jacob grew up on Cemetery Road in Bury. Aged 18 he was living with his widowed mother and working as a labourer in a vinegar works. He married Emma Ruffles in 1873 in Ipswich and they had three children: Charles (1873-1891), Kate (1876-1951) and Alice (1879-1961). Jacob worked as a railway guard for Great Eastern Railway, son Charles was born in Ixworth, daughter Kate in Ely, but the family had moved to live at 65 Sturton Street, Cambridge by 1879 when youngest daughter Alice was born.  After he was widowed, he lived at 25 Seymour Street with daughter Alice and son in law John Ruffles (1927/1928). It is believed he might have died in Sudbury and was aged 77 (although his grave monument reads 76 years).

Emma Andrews (née Ruffles) (1840 – 22 May 1926)

Emma was born in the village of Bardwell, northeast of Bury St. Edmunds and was the daughter of agricultural labourer William Ruffles and Lydia (née Kent). She worked as a servant (1861) and in 1871 was working as a cook in a boarding school in Bury St. Edmunds. She died aged 86 years.
