William Robert Apthorpe (1827 – 18 April 1890)
William was the eldest son of Jonathan (1806-1866) and Mary Ann (née Leader) (1809-) and was baptised on 18 November 1827 at St. Clement’s Church. He married Ann Dawes in 1857 and they had at least six children: Clara Anne (1858-1892), Frances Priscilla (1859-927), William John (1862-1936), Alice (1866-), Frederick Charles (1869-1929) and Ellen Jane (1871-1926). William was a college servant and the family lived at 13 Burleigh Street (1861), 34 Paradise Street (1871) and 51 Norfolk Terrace (at least 1881 onwards). William died at home aged 62 years old.
Ann Maria Apthorpe (née Dawes) (1831 – 17 January 1902)
Ann was the daughter of William and Frances Dawes and was born and raised in Trumpington. Her father was a builder and she married William Apthorpe when she was c.26 years old. After she was widowed she lived with her two daughters at Norfolk Terrace and worked as a laundress. Ann died at home and her funeral was held on 22 January.
William and Ann’s daughter Clara Anne died as a result of childbirth in February 1892 and was also buried at Mill Road Cemetery. Her grave has not yet been identified.
